Public use plans proposed for new Adirondack lands

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- The Department of Environmental Conservation is taking public comment on recreation plans for new state land in the Newcomb area of the Adirondacks.

Two plans were released on Wednesday for a month-long comment period. One is a management plan for the Essex Chain Lakes complex in Hamilton and Essex counties. The other plan proposes locations for multiple-use trails between the communities of Newcomb, Minerva and North Hudson, as well as connecting to the recently acquired state lands in the vicinity of the Hudson River.

Both plans are available on the DEC website ( and ).
