Police investigate toppled headstones at Troy cemetery

TROY -- Police are investigating after finding a number of headstones toppled over at a Troy cemetery.

Authorities say they were notified on Tuesday evening of the suspected vandalism at St. John's Cemetery in Lansingburgh. The toppled headstones, which were in the lower part of the cemetery that is not noticeable from the street, were not broken.

To see this.I don't know what to think about it. I can't imagine why anyone would want to come and desecrate graves, said Michael, who found the damage. "A lot of these families, they're all dead, so who's going to fix the stones? The stones will always stay like that."
Police have increased patrols in the area, and the ongoing investigation has been assigned to the Detective Bureau. Councilman Jim Gordon said at least one person from the community offered to repair the damage at no charge.

I want to get inside someones head who says you know what I think is a good idea, Im going to be a (expletive) and go knockdown all these people's headstones, said Gordon. To me, personally, this is one of the lowest things an individual can do.
