'Grocery boat' travels to Hudson

HUDSON -- A Vermont-based 'grocery boat' brought local goods to Hudson residents this week.

The Ceres docked on Monday with a boatload of products like maple syrup, cider and honey all produced in Vermont and Upstate New York. The captain says it's a floating farmstand set up to create a food trading network with no carbon footprint.

"We have grains, pancake mixes and things - the type of stuff you would find in a Vermont farm store without having to drive there," he says.

The boat follows the traditional marketing routes that date back hundreds of years, down through the locks of the Champlain Canal.
