Man charged in Adirondack crash that killed couple

RAY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities say they've charged the driver of a pickup-truck that crashed into a car in the Adirondacks while fleeing police, killing a couple and injuring their daughter.

A trooper at the state police barracks in Ray Brook says the man was arraigned in North Elba Town Court early Friday morning. The man's name and the specific charges haven't been released.

The crash occurred around 2 p.m. Thursday near the trooper barracks. Troopers say the pick-up collided head-on with a car driven by 42-year-old James Barney of Potsdam, who was killed. His 38-year-old wife, Kim, later died at Fletcher Allen Heath Care in Burlington, Vermont.

Their 11-year-old daughter, Emily Colby, is in critical condition at Fletcher Allen.

Troopers say the pursuit began in nearby Lake Placid after the driver hit a vehicle and didn't stop.
