BikeShare program gets residents moving

SCHENECTADY - If you've noticed a number of identical white bicycles being pedaled around Schenectady, don't be alarmed.

A number of bikes are lined up in front of City Hall for a test 'bikeshare' program. The project, run by a Buffalo company, coincides with Capital Region Bikeshare Month.

The test run offers another mode of transportation for folks downtown.

When you're done using the bicycle, you can simply put it back on the racks set up throughout town.

You do have to register with a credit card, but the bikes are free to use during this test launch.

Until July 16th, bikes are located at City Hall and on Union Street, in front of Union College's Webster House and First Reformed Church.

25 bikes are available for use in schenectady thru Wednesday. Soon after, they'll head to Troy, Saratoga Springs, and Albany in the weeks ahead.
