Fatal fire in Rensselaer

UPDATE: Police have released the identity of the victim in Tuesday's fatal fire. The woman, Gwendolyn Fowler, 70, died from asphyxia due to smoke and carbon monoxide inhalation.

Another resident of the building was transported to Albany Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Officials say the fire is not considered suspicious and is still under investigation.

RENSSELAER-- Fire investigators are trying to figure out what caused a deadly early morning in Rensselaer.

Crews were called to 52 Walker Avenue to find it completely engulfed by flames. One person died as a result of the fire, but everyone else has been accounted for, with one person taken to the hospital for injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

Crews are still combing through the scene in search of missing pets.The 3-unit building was home to five people, including one woman who had lived there for 18 years.
