Police: Woman calls 911 for friend's overdose, gets arrested for heroin possession

EAST GREENBUSH -- A woman who allegedly called 911 to report a friend's overdose was arrested on drug charges.

Donna Sorell, 19, from North Greenbush is facing charges for possession of heroin and a hypodermic instrument. Authorities say they were alerted to the woman after she called 911 to request medical help for a 23-year-old man who had passed out in the parking lot of Mill Creek.

When the rescue squad arrived, the man regained consciousness and refused medical attention. A witness told authorities that Sorell had ditched her purse before cops arrived. When they found the purse, officials say they discovered the contraband.

Sorell will appear in court later this month to face the charges.
