Off duty State Trooper credited for saving man's life at fitness center

CLIFTON PARK - An off duty State Trooper is credited for saving the life of a man who collapsed at a gym.

On Monday, a 23 year old man became unresponsive after a weightlifting routine at the Vent Fitness Center on State Route 146 in Clifton Park at around 7:00 p.m.

Police say the man fell to the floor unconscious and began to turn blue.

Next to the man was off duty Trooper Seamus Leavey, who immediately began CPR.

An employee called 911, and brought the Trooper the AED who then administered a shock, resulting in the successful resuscitation of the man.

Officials credit the knowledge of the staff, patrons at the gym, and Trooper Leavey for saving the man's life.

Trooper Leavey is a 12 year veteran of the State Police and is assigned as a patrol trooper in Troop G.
