Selkirk man accused of taking pornographic photos of young children

BETHLEHEM -- Police arrested a Level 1 sex offender they say was taking pornographic photos of children under the age of 11.

55-year-old Robert McCoy of Selkirk lives in a mobile home park along Route 9W. On Tuesday a search warrant was executed there and at a camper trailer on McCoy's property off Wemple road in Glenmont, where police say the photographs were taken.

Police say McCoy's sex offender registration is up to date and that his post-release supervision and probation requirements expired a few months ago. He was convicted in federal court for possession of child pornography in 2009.

McCoy is charged with use of a child in a sexual performance, promoting a sexual performance by a child and endangering the welfare of a child. He was ordered held at the Albany County Jail with no bail.

Sgt. Adam Hornick of the Bethlehem Police Department told reporters police received a tip from an adult on Tuesday. He offered no other details - other than the victim knew and trusted McCoy - in order to protect the victim. Hornick said detectives were waiting for further search warrants to allow the searching of McCoy's electronic devices.

Police think there may be more victims and ask anyone who knows McCoy or knows children who may have been with him to call police at 518-439-9973. Hornick said no other allegations came to the attention of police Wednesday night.
