Accident closes downtown Albany streets

UPDATE: Police say the 82-year-old woman involved in Wednesday's accident has died. She has been identified as Delores Taaffe.

ALBANY -- The intersection of Chapel Street and Sheridan Avenue is in Albany is back open after a terrible accident Wednesday afternoon.

Police say an 82-year-old woman was involved in a minor accident on the 100 block of Sheridan Avenue, they say she left the scene of that accident at a high rate of speed and hit a FedEx truck that was stopped at the light. Police say the woman then hit a parked green car, and took out a light pole before her car came to a rest right in front of  Victory Cafe.

The woman was extricated from the car and taken to Albany Medical Center. She is currently listed in critical condition.
