Fire truck recall affects Schenectady

SCHENECTADY -- After a nationwide recall, Schenectady is now down one fire truck.

Sutphen asked fire departments across the country to take four models of its 5-section ladder trucks out of service. The Schenectady fire department says their truck is now waiting to be fixed. Until the fix, officials say an older truck is taking its place.

Assistant Fire Chief Mike Gillespie says the trucks were pulled because of safety concerns. A contractor will be fixing the cables. A Georgia newspaper reported that two firefighters were injured last week after the bucket on top of a Sutphen ladder truck fell 44 feet.
