Project Lifesaver comes to Schenectady Co.

SCHENECTADY COUNTY -- A national program geared towards protecting those with conditions like Alzheimer's and Autism is coming to Schenectady County.

On Tuesday, the Sheriff's Office announced the start of Project Lifesaver. The voluntary program allows those at high risk for wandering off to be fitted with a small transmitter worn around the wrist or ankle. The device makes it faster and easier for police to locate the person if they are reported missing.

The program is being provided to Schenectady County residents through a partnership between the Sheriff's Office, Schenectady County Office for Long Term Care and the Autism Action Network of Schenectady County.

For more information about participating in the program, please contact the Schenectady County Sheriff's Office at (518) 388-4596, ext. 5147.
