Former Albany Senator Ralph Kiner Dies
Rancho Mirage, CA - Baseball Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner passed away Thursday morning of natural causes. He was 91.
Kiner began his pro baseball career in 1941 with the old Albany Senators of the Eastern League. He spent two full seasons playing for the Sens at old Hawkins Stadium in Menands.
He then fought in World War II for the U.S. Navy, before breaking into the major leagues with Pittsburgh in 1946.
Following retirement, Kiner transitioned to the broadcast booth. He joined the New York Mets announce team in 1962 and remained in that position on a part-time basis through the 2013 season.
