ALBANY, N.Y. (WRGB) - Albany Airport firefighter Josh Woodward underwent surgery Wednesday to amputate all 10 of his toes.

Woodward has been hospitalized for weeks as he battles sepsis, a potentially life-threatening condition.

"Lefty got a little more length than righty, as we expected," Woodward's wife, Chelsea, wrote on Facebook. "Lots to work with for either learning to walk on his own new two feet, or a little assistance with either silicone strap on toes or some sort of prosthetic. The only bummer is looks like he will have to go back in one more time just for a bit of grafting and a little bit of fine tuning."

Chelsea says those procedures will likely happen next week.

The surgery was the seventh for Woodward. His story has captivated thousands in the Capital Region and beyond. More than $100,000 has been raised to support Josh.
