Albany Co. legislators vote on smoking ban in parks

ALBANY, NY (WRGB)--The Albany County Legislature has voted to ban regular and electronic cigarettes from county owned parks and play areas.

There were 34 votes for the law, and only one abstention.

The law says that you can't use cigarettes, tobacco products in parks like Lawson Lake County Park, the Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail, and the Ann Lee Pond Nature and Historic Preserve.

Anyone caught breaking the new law - will face a $50 fine for the first strike, then a $200 one for strike number two and $500 for a third offense.

ALBANY, NY (WRGB)--One local county may ban smoking in public parks.

The Albany County Legislature is expected to approve the law at a meeting Monday night.

The law would ban cigarettes, tobacco products, liquid nicotines, and electronic cigarettes in all county-owned parks and recreation areas.

That includes Lawson Lake County Park, the Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail, and the Ann Lee Pond Nature and Historic Preserve.
