Albany man charged with weapons possession

ALBANY, N.Y. (WRGB) - An Albany man has been charged with weapons possession.

Albany police say they responded to the area of Lincoln Ave. and West Lawrence St. around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday for reports of a man checking car doors.

They say 19-year-oldNijhail Johnson matched the description of the suspect. Investigators say when they tried to stop Johnson, he initially walked away and ignored commands before being apprehended. Johnson was allegedlyin possession of a loaded 9mm handgun, which police say he had concealed in his pants pocket, and 5.5 grams of crack cocaine.

Johnson was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and obstruction of governmental administration.

He was arraigned Wednesday morning in the Albany City Criminal Court.
