Albany police identify homicide victim


UPDATE: Albany Police have identified the man who died following an early morning shooting Saturday as Elijah Cancer, 32, of Albany.


Albany police they're investigating a homicide that happened in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 7th.

Around 3:10 am, police say they responded to Teunis Street between Second and Third Avenues for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located two male individuals on Teunis Street with gunshot wounds.

They say a 32-year-old from Albany, was shot three times in the torso and also transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A 31-year-old victim was treated on the scene for a gunshot wound to the arm and taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say at this point it appears there was a large altercation at the location involving a group of girls and that the victims may have been attempting to break up the fight when they were shot.

The incident, however, remains under investigation.

The name of the deceased will not be released until proper notifications have been made.
