ALBANY, N.Y. (WRGB) - A Capital Region lawmaker is calling on the state to step in, and help those impacted by the St. Clare's pension crisis.

Assem. Angelo Santabarbara has sent a letter to the governor, asking that $20 million be set aside in the state budget to support St. Clare's retirees.

In October, it was announced that the hospital's pension fund was nearly bankrupt, putting pensions in jeopardy. Hundreds of people have stopped receiving their full benefits.

There have been several meetings with Bishop Edward Scharffenberger, lawmakers and retirees about the issue.
