RENSSELAER (WRGB) -- Rensselaer City Police are investigating a body found along the Hudson River in front of the Albany Yacht Club.
“It's not something any of us expected, it was a very shocking surprise,” Albany Yacht Club Commodore John Bergman, said.
Bergman said some members of the Yacht Club were installing docks by the water just after 7a.m. Saturday when they made the discovery. They described the body as a younger man with pants on. Bergman said those on scene were very shaken up.
“The one guy, he wouldn't even go back, he said I am done for a little while and he stayed on the other end,” Bergman said. “Thank God we had an Albany Fire Lieutenant that was right there on the scene too. He knew just what to do and who to call.”
The fire department and police were called on scene and eventually removed the body from the water.
“It looks like it's been there for a period of time,” Rensselaer City Police Detective, Scott Earing said. “We don't have any information at this point on the identity.”
An autopsy on the body is scheduled for Monday.
