Celebrating Hanukkah with Rabbi Robert Kasman

Sunday, December the 9th is the 7th day of the eight-day Hanukkah celebration.

Rabbi Robert Kasman of Temple Beth El in Troy joined CBS 6 to talk about the holiday. Temple Beth El is also celebrating 90 years, 1928 to 2018. Recently, an anniversary celebration was held. It also marked the renovation of the sanctuary.

Early in 2018, a flood from a burst pipe left the building uninhabitable. However, as soon as the damage took place, Rabbi Kasman says so many members immediately gathered to aid in the clean up. He also says through the dedicated work of Murray C. Massry, Sylva and Mark Menard and many others, educational classes, services and programs were able to continue while the extensive reconstruction was underway.

Rabbi Kasman reminds us, when you are in the darkest hour, don't curse. Instead, light a candle.

He says Hanukkah is a celebration of those who lit the candle that said, we only have enough oil for one good day. Let's make it a good day.

Even in that darkest hour when things are bad, he says don't worry, things will get better.
