ALBANY, NY (WRGB) Albany International Airport is getting some new food options in Spring 2018, and the choices include the very first Chick-fil-A in the area.

Tuesday, the airport security line was full of people thrilled to hear, like passenger Kevin Myers.

“I love Chick-fil-A, it’s my favorite chicken place,” Myers said.

Wolfgang Puck Pizza and the American Market by Todd English will be joining the fast food chicken chain at the airport sometime in Spring, after a decision by the Albany County Airport Authority on Monday.

“I’m super excited, I'll come here just for Chick-fil-A, even if I’m not flying,” Myers said.

Unfortunately, that won’t be possible. The Chick-fil-A and the Wolfgang Puck’s Pizza will be located past the security line.

“I’m a little bummed out, I forgot I can’t get to it without buying a ticket, but it is what it is,” Myers said.

OHM Concession Group LLC is bringing the new restaurants. Executive Vice President Richard Chinsammy says placing the popular restaurants behind security was a business decision.

“It’s purely a function of where the passengers who are traveling are going to be, and they're 99% of the time post-security,” Chinsammy said.

But he says a Chick-fil-A in the airport is a positive sign for those who want to see more.

“I’ve always found that once an airport location of a concept is open, then that market becomes viable, so they'll be one in Albany soon,” Chinsammy said.

The new restaurants mean, we'll be losing some current ones. Chick-fil-A will be replacing Villa Italian Kitchen and Wolfgang Puck Pizza will go in place of Green Leaf's Beyond Salads.

The American Market will be located in front of security, near Dunkin’ Donuts.
