Colonie coin shop offering $500 to first person who brings in 'W' quarter

COLONIE, N.Y. (WRGB) - You may want to check your pockets or your change drawer.

Ferris Coin and Jewelry on Wolf Road is offering $500 to the first person who brings in one of the new “W” quarters to sell.

This year, for the first time in its 227 years of producing coins, the U.S. Mint has put a "W” mark on coins -- indicating they come from the West Point Mint in New York's Hudson Valley.

The “W” can be found on America the Beautiful quarters that have just been released into circulation.

Ferris Coin and other dealers have also been sneaking older rare coins -- that are still legal tender -- into circulation at stores and restaurants -- so keep an eye out for unusual looking coins.
