COLONIE: A one-vehicle crash in Colonie Saturday morning sent one person to the hospital and damaged power poles and lines.

At about 8:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a crash that destroyed two power poles on Central Avenue near Lapham Drive. Officers found the operator of a 2015 GMC 3500 pickup unconscious and possibly in cardiac arrest. Officers and paramedics performed CPR on the driver, and he was transported to Albany Medical Center, where he is reported in serious but stable condition.

Police said witness accounts described the pickup traveling eastbound normally, then leaving the roadway, driving onto the sidewalk, and striking and breaking two power poles. The truck then traveled across all lanes of traffic, and came to rest on the north side curb. Police said it did not appear that the truck collided with any other vehicles.

Police are investigating the possibility that the driver suffered a medical event. At present, no charges are pending in regard to the crash.

Central Avenue has been closed since in the area since the crash, with detours in both directions, while National Grid works to stabilize the power lines and replace the poles. There are localized power outages in the village of Colonie. A national Grid spokesperson estimated repairs would be complete late Saturday afternoon.
