TROY- After three days of deliberations there is still no verdict in the trial of a Troy man accused of killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend and then setting her apartment on fire to cover it all up.
Prosecutors say 20-year-old Gabriel Vega committed the crimes in April of 2014. They say Vega strangled 19-year-old Vanessa Milligan, who was carrying his child, and then doused her apartment with gasoline before setting the fire.
On Monday a jury of six men and six women asked to hear a read-back of the testimony of Vanessa Milligan's best friend Ginelly Santana.
Santana testified she spent more than an hour with Milligan the night she was killed. The two were comparing pregnancies because Santana was seven months pregnant at the time and Milligan was due in just a few days.
Santana also testified that she knew Vega since they were kids and that he was important to Milligan. She told the jury Milligan loved him.
The jury also asked for legal definitions of all the charges Vega is facing.
Vega is on trial for second-degree murder but the jury is also considering two lesser charges, either first or second-degree manslaughter instead of the murder charge.
During closing arguments, Vega's defense attorney urged the jury to consider these lesser charges should they find Vega guilty.
Vega is also facing second and third-degree arson as well as first-degree abortion.
Last week the jury also asked for a review of the testimony of three other key witnesses and the complete legal definition of reasonable doubt.
The jury will be back to continue their deliberations Wednesday at 9 a.m.
