ALBANY, N.Y. (WRGB) - April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and the Department of Motor Vehicles is launching a campaign to target it.
The DMV, along with the governor's Traffic Safety Committee, launched the campaign together. Among the speakers at the event was Karen Torres.
Her father, a New York state Department of Transportation highway maintenance worker, was struck and killed by a distracted driver.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nine people are killed every day as a result of distracted driving and more than a thousand people are injured.
