SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (WRGB) - "Shame on you! Shame on you! Shame on you!"

A crowd of protesters and a President Donald Trump chicken greeted guests arriving at tonight's GOP Rising Star Celebration in Saratoga Springs.

"You've got lobbyists, rich people coming here to fund the Republicans and the truth is that the Republicans represent the interest of oligarchs from Moscow, oligarchs from Wall Street, and they do not represent the average people of America," said Joe Seeman, protest organizer.

Demonstrators took direct aim at the fundraiser's special guest, former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

"Say it loud, say it clear, 'Sean Spicer not welcome here'," they chanted.

Spicer's first stop in the Spa city was Northshire Bookstore on Broadway to sign copies of his book.

There, Spicer says he got a warm reception.

"It was an honor to see so many people come out. Every time I do one of these events, to realize that people are giving a part of their day to stand in line and get a book, it's pretty humbling," Spicer said.

But even though people gave a part of their night to stand in line and protest, a GOP spokeswoman at the event acknowledged their right to do so.

"Look, everybody has their right to free speech, that's what makes this country so great and so if they want to come out here and protest, that's fine, and we're in here talking about the great things that we're accomplishing and everyone goes home and it was peaceful," said Jessica Proud, NY GOP Spokeswoman.
