Firefighters respond to Ravena house fire
RAVENA, NY (WRGB) -- Firefighters responded to a house fire in the Village of Ravena early Thursday morning.
The call came out after 3:00am.
Firefighters originally heard people were trapped, but everyone was out by the time they arrived on scene.
At least five people were home at the time. Two people on the second floor used an escape ladder to climb out the window. The staircase they use was engulfed in flames. Firefighters say that ladder was a key tool that saved lives, that you can buy and keep at home.
You can buy the escape ladders at big name home improvement stores or Walmart, online including on Amazon, or many local hardware stores can order one for you. Prices vary, but from what we found, prices start at $35.
One resident who escaped the fire was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
Two dogs made it out safely too. One of which was trapped inside, and found nearly two hours later. He was taken to the vet to be checked.
Firefighters believe the home is a total loss.
The cause is still under investigation.
