ALBANY -- Most of First Street was closed off for hours as they searched for a man that fired a gun into a crowd and then ran into a nearby house. But a thorough search by tactical units turned up empty.
"Occupant of 160 First St., this is the Albany Police Department. Please come out."
This heavy police presence is the result of several calls about a man shooting into a crowd on First Street around 10 a.m. Police say the shooter missed. No one was hurt, but he got away.
“We had credible people who said they saw an individual run into a house, so that changes the game for us."
Steve Smith of Albany Police says the man went inside the home, but when tactical teams searched it, he was gone. Smith said the home was occupied, but could not say whether the shooter lives there. Police are still trying to track the shooter.
"Sometimes it just takes seconds, the suspect ran outside the house, most likely out the back door."
Police haven’t identified the shooter, but say they believe this is an isolated incident.
Police will be conducting a search warrant on that building. They don't believe there is any immediate threat to the public. If you have any information on this, give them a call.
