New York State (WRGB) — Weeds in our lawn and gardens can easily be done away with by either pulling them out or spraying some weed killer on them.
That wont work though when they’re growing in a lake.
Lonnie Van Buren’s job is to help make Saratoga Lake cleaner by traversing the lake with his weed harvester, which is part boat and part weed whacker all in one.

A sickle-type cutter in front of the boat cuts the weeds below the surface before they’re sent up a steel conveyor belt that pushes the cut up weeds into the boat’s weed holder area.
Perhaps you’ve seen these large orange machines out on the lake, their purpose being to keep the lake fit for recreational use.
All the weeds are loaded up onto trucks and taken to area farms who use them for compost.
