Gloversville man loses 250 lbs in just 15 months!
GLOVERSVILLE, NY (WRGB) If you're looking to lose weight it seems everyone has an opinion on what diet is best.
There are so many to choose from. Which one really works for you?
Julia spoke to a Gloversville man who's lost an incredible amount of weight in a short period of time. He shares how he's doing it and how it's changed his life.
Michael Pancoast lost so much weight, his friends have trouble recognizing him.
"I've lost 250 pounds in one year three months," he says, "I've been big all my life. I've always been the big kid. Picked last on sports teams."
He laughs, "I was always goalie! Because I take up space. They're always like, put Mike in goal, you'll be fine!"
He was on his way to an early grave prior to changing his lifestyle, overhauling his diet to a low fat, high carb diet.
But those carbs are not from break or dairy, or things with refined sugar. They're from vegetables.
Mike's personal trainer, Guy Waltman says he supports the low fat high carb diet. Instead of low carb high fat, Like Paleo or Atikins.
Doctor Jennifer Lindstrom at Albany Medical Center says high protein diets can be risky ... Especially those with certain medical conditions like kidney stones.
Those diets have lots of fruits, veggies, and lean meats. Again, no refined sugars and low-fat dairy.
Choosing the right diet is difficult. Especially with hundreds out there.
Mike is grateful his diet's working for him ... He says he still has twenty more pounds to go before reaching his goal weight of 210.
