Three people shot, hospitalized in Schenectady, suspect in custody

UPDATE: Howard was arraigned on July 17 and turned over to Schenectady County. He is facing three counts of attempted murder in the second degree.


SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (WRGB) - Police say three people have been taken to the hospital after a shooting in Schenectady.

It happened early Tuesday afternoon in the area of Union Street and Brandywine Avenue at around 12:50 PM.

Schenectady Police say that when officers arrived, two children, ages 16 and 7, were found at the intersection with gunshot wounds. A 35 year old woman was also taken to a hospital, who also appeared to be injured.

Police say officers entered the residence at 1373 Union Street and located a one year old boy inside the residence unharmed. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

The suspect, 47 year old Deshawn Howard was located at a residence on Summit Ave, suffering from a gunshot wound, that police said in a press conference, appeared to be self inflicted.
