ALBANY, N.Y. (WRGB) - A very dear and familiar face to CBS6 viewers commemorated Black History Month on Monday by sharing his personal story at the Albany Public Library.

Longtime CBS6 reporter Ken Screven was the featured speaker at the League of Women Voters event. Ken was a pioneer in the Albany market as the first African American male on local TV news.

His greatest strength as a reporter was his ability to make an emotional connection to his audience, and during his many years at CBS6, Ken was our go-to reporter on stories that affected our community.

On Monday, he remembered those who helped him along his award-winning career path, and celebrated those who, thanks to the contributions he made, have followed in his footsteps.

“I'm proud to see people of color out there doing and being and representing on camera,” he said. “It’s a great thing.”

Ken’s appearance also celebrated the 99th anniversary of the founding of the League of Women Voters.
