Man pleads guilty to striking two State Troopers, tow truck operators

TROY, NY (WRGB) The man accused of severely injuring two New York State Troopers and a two tow truck operators in a roadside crash has pleaded guilty to charges.

Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel Abelove says that 26 year old Christopher Neumann pleaded guilty to vehicular assault and DWAI involving drugs and alcohol.

Investigators say back on March 4, 2018, New York State Troopers Brent Karow and Shane Swartz assisted tow truck operators after a crash on I-90 just after 5:00 AM. It was then, according to investigators, Neumann struck the two Troopers and a tow truck operator.

Police say he was found to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

As part of the plea deal, Neumann is expected to be sentenced to 2 to 6 years in prison.

Abelove said, “This defendant pled guilty to the top charge and will receive nearly the maximum sentence allowed by law. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Troopers Karow and Swartz, and Jeffrey Wait, as we wish them a speedy and full recovery. This case demonstrates the horrific dangers posed by impaired drivers on our roads.”
