ALBANY, NY (WRGB) Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan announced that she will appoint Deputy Fire Chief Joseph W. Gregory as the new Chief of the Albany Fire Department.

“I am honored to accept the position as the next Fire Chief for the City of Albany Fire Department,” said Deputy Chief Gregory. “I would like to thank Mayor Sheehan for this opportunity. I am dedicated to leading this department forward while maintaining the rich traditions of the fire service.”

This comes after Chief Warren Abriel, Jr. retired on July 28 to enjoy the summer before reaching the required state retirement age.

Deputy Chief Gregory has severed Albany for almost three decades, according to the Mayor.

“The men and women of the Albany Fire Department work hard every day to keep our residents and visitors safe,” said Mayor Kathy Sheehan. “Joe Gregory has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to the residents of Albany and the Albany Fire Department. He has the tactical and administrative experience we need to continue Chief Abriel’s proud work leading Albany’s bravest.”
