Albany, (WRGB): Albany city police are on the scene of a shooting that took place at around 11:30 p.m. Thursday at the corner of Phillip Street and Park Avenue.

The victim was apparently shot through a car window near the Betty Boop's Diner.

According to a Twitter post by Albany police spokesman Steve Smith, the victim is a 22-year-old male who was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital with "serious" injuries and is in critical condition.

One of the windows of the vehicle, which is still located at the scene, was shattered while a bullet hole was clearly visible on the other side. Blood could also be seen inside the car and on the ground outside.

Lisa Cook lives across the street and told CBS6 she heard the whole thing. " I just heard loud - four loud shots," she said. "It was so loud -- bang bang -- I knew it couldn't have been anything else. I've never heard anyone get shot, but i knew those were shots as soon as i heard them."

Teresa Soto, owner of Betty Boop's Diner said she's been there for six years and has never had a problem in the neighborhood. "Very quiet, everybody knows everybody, people come in, it's like a family here, it's really nice, we've never had an issue here before," she said.

There is no word on whether an arrest has been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call Albany Police or submit a tip through Capital Region Crime Stoppers.
