Schenectady, NY (WRGB) — The basketball courts at Central Park in Schenectady will carry a new name starting Wednesday.
Schenectady High School student-athlete Naylon Carrington who tragically died in a car crash two years ago will have his legacy cemented.
Naylon, or “Nay” as his teammates called him, would spend his days, perfecting his shot on these courts.
Now, his name will forever be attached to them.
Fittingly on what would have been his 20th birthday Wednesday, a ceremony taking place to make them officially the Naylon Carrington courts with several members of the community on hand.
It was Naylon’s mother, according to Schenectady high head basketball coach John Miller who came up with the idea for this.

A petition was eventually put on Mayor McCarthy’s desk to make it happen.
Coach Miller would add that her persistence and positive attitude were both very much passed down to her son.
“ He did everything the right way. He was at school when he needed to be at school, he didn’t miss practice, he never made excuses if something wasn’t going right going our way or his way. It was never anyone else’s fault- he wanted to solve it try to figure out what he could do better it was always what can I do better in the team he was always a team first kind of person.” says Miller.
Carrington graduated in June of 2020 and would tragically lose his life in that car crash only months later in October.
