Sunday, March 14th is National Potato Chip Day.

This one is dear to many people, including Saratoga's "Toga Chip Guy" Alan Richer.

CBS6 profiled him last month and tonight, his work is featured in a new series on the History Channel called the "Food that Built America."

He says one of his episodes airs on March 14th at 9:00 PM called "Chip Dynasties" on Frito-Lay.

The historian says the potato chip used to be called the Saratoga chip.

But did they originate here? He says a London optician published a recipe in 1817 beating toga by more than 30 years. But he says, even if the potato chip wasn't invented here, it was popularized here.

Around 1925 the word Saratoga was dropped from chips.
