Sheriff: Driver stole vehicle, got into crashes moments apart
QUEENSBURY -- A Queensbury man faces multiple charges after the Warren County Sheriff's Office says he stole a car, drove drunk, and got into two crashes, just moments apart.
At 6:30 a.m. Friday, the sheriff's office was dispatched to an automobile crash with injuries near the Sky Zone on Corinth Road.
Investigating officers found a 2006 Hyundai, operated by 22-year-old Alejandro C. Becerril, had crossed the double yellow lines, colliding head-on with a 2006 Honda driven by Mikayla G. Renaud, 23, of Hudson Falls. Renaud and her 7-month-old daughter were transported to Glens Falls Hospital with apparent minor injuries. Becerril was not injured.
While officers were at that scene, investigation revealed he had been in a hit-and-run property damage crash on Stephanie Lane, moments before. Sheriff's officers aid Becerril struck a tree in the yard of a residence, in the same vehicle, and fled the scene.
Furhter investigation found that the vehicle Becerril was driving had been stolen, that he was driving while intoxicated, and that he was driving with a suspended license for a prior DUI conviction.
He was also issued traffic tickets for leaving the scene of a property damage crash, failure to keep right, and operating an uninspected vehicle.
Becerril was arraigned in Queensbury Town Court and released with supervision from the Warren County Probation Department.
The NYS Police, West Glens Falls Fire Company and the West Glens Falls Emergency Squad assisted at the scene.
