Sheriff: Off-duty Albany Co. deputy fires gun to defend K9 partner
COLONIE, N.Y. (WRGB) – An off-duty member of the Albany County Sheriff’s Office discharged a firearm at an unregistered dog after an attack on Thursday, according to Sheriff Craig Apple.
Apple says the incident happened on Prince Court around 7 p.m.
Apple says the officer was working out with his K9 partner when it and another privately owned dog were attacked by the unregistered dog.
Apple says the officer discharged his licensed off-duty firearm in defense of his K9 partner, who was injured in the attack. The attacking dog was struck and both animals received veterinary care.
The incident remains under investigation.
