UPDATE: Officials say the bank of the Claverack Creek collapsed Thursday afternoon, likely as a result of recent wet weather.

The section that caved is about 300 by 100 yards, and is now blocking the creek.

Officials say there is no danger to the public downstream, but are warning people who may want to come take a look, to keep their distance.

DEC and other agencies will be working to get water rerouted and going back downstream. They're expected back Friday morning.

GREENPORT -- There is a state of emergency in three Columbia County towns, after a landslide in the area of Sons of Italy and Bridge Street in Greenport.

County Executive Matt Murrel declared the state of emergency -- for Greenport, stockville, and Stockport -- due to conditions produced by the slide.

The declaration works to protect life, property, and public infrastructure, as well as whatever other emergency assistance may be needed.

Bridge Street in Greenport will be closed until further notice.

Town, county, and state officials have been advised, and are working to remove the hazards.
