SARATOGA, NY (WRGB)A statue in Congress Park in Saratoga Springs was found damaged on Thursday morning.
Police tape surrounds the scene where the statue was found on the lawn in pieces.
Police placed markers next to each of the pieces, took measurements and looked for other trace evidence.

The statue honors members of the 77th Saratoga volunteer regiment, which takes its name from the battle of Saratoga, fought in 1777.
CBS6 spoke with Detective Lieutenant Bob Jillson who believes this was no accident.
Officials say this is the second act of vandalism in the park over the weekend the the recently refinished Katrina Trask Gateway, along with trees and benches were vandalized with spray paint.
