Troy Police: 4 bodies found inside basement of home
TROY (WRGB)--Police say four people are dead and their deaths are being investigated as homicides.
Officials say the four were found in a basement apartment on 2nd Ave. in Troy by the building's property manager.
Few details are being released about the victims or the crime right now, as it's under intense investigation.
"It's certainly suspicious, and right now it's being investigated as a homicide."
Troy Police Captain Dan Dewolf says the department got the call just before 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.
"Some people who appeared to be unconscious, they were in a basement apartment here at 158 2nd Ave."
DeWolf says responders determined the four individuals to be dead - he says as far as Police know, all four were residents of that apartment. Their names, ages, and genders have not yet been released. Investigators spent the night on scene, but police declined to comment further on the nature of the deaths.
"There are four dead people, and we're looking at it that way until something changes our mind, we're looking at it as a homicide," DeWolf said.
"It's horrible, it's horrible for the families, it's horrible for Troy."
Neighbors passed by the scene throughout the evening, saddened by such a tragedy and fearing for their own safety.
"Very scared, until they find who did it and what their reason was, I don't think anybody around here can be safe," said Jason Fenton, who's lived across the street since 1999.
Captain DeWolf says while the public should always be alert and aware, he doesn't believe this was a random act.
"It's horrible, terrible, sad, especially this time of year, that there are four deceased folks in there, and we're going to do everything we can to look into this, and see if we can get to the bottom of what happened here."
Many neighbors told us they'd see a family with children at that residence often, but police cannot confirm ages or relations of the victims as of yet.
