Using a mat to manage your pet
With all of the holiday cheer and gatherings, you may find yourself struggling to keep your pet away from the dinner table!
Alissa Mosier, CPDT-KA , with Old Dogs New Tricks Dog Training has some ideas to help you work with your pet.
She brought her dog, Jasper, to showcase a few ideas.
She advises using a mat to o manage a pet during holiday meals or everyday meals. She says to train the dog to go to the mat with treats. That way, your pup will stay on the mat instead of at the table. She says you can also use the mats as a good way to wipe paws.
She also says in the cold weather to limit outdoor time. She says to be sure to wipe or wash paws after going out to remove salt.
She also advises using indoor activities to keep their brains busy when it is too cold to go out.
