Davis, C.A. (WRGB) – Police in Davis, California say they've found the suspect believed to be responsible for shooting and killing one of their own.
Police say the shooting happened Thursday night. They say 22 year old Officer Natalie Corona was responding to a three-car crash when she was shot. She was taken to UC Davis Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries. Officer Corona was sworn in as an officer just two weeks ago. She graduated from the police academy in July of 2018.
The shooting sparked a manhunt for a white man in his 20s wearing a baseball cap, black jacket, blue or tan jeans, and black tactical boots. Early Friday morning, police were engaged in a standoff at a home in Davis. Just before 4:30 am, police tweeted that the suspected shooter was found dead inside the home with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Davis police say the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department is taking over the investigation.
