You Paid For It: Parting gift for NY taxpayers
ALBANY, N.Y. (WRGB) - Voted out of office last fall, former Assemblywoman Earlene Hooper from Long Island is taking a nice chunk of your money with her.
We’ve obtained her final expense submissions for per diems for time spent in Albany. She put in for per diems for the final week of November and the first two weeks of December. Total price tag -- $3,090.92.
On her expense vouchers she says her three weeks in Albany were for things like “communications, meetings and assorted tasks”. All this fort a period that other lawmakers describe as a very slow time at the State Capitol.
Compare Hooper to fellow Democrat Anthony Brindisi – he too was leaving office at the end of the year, in his case to head to Congress. He came to Albany for one day in December to close up his Albany office, and charged taxpayers 164 dollars, 29-hundred dollars less than Hooper.
Hooper is one of the most prolific compilers of per diems in legislative history; during one ten year stretch she collected more than $200,000 in per diems. I have repeatedly tried to question her about the many per diems she collects for the time when the State Legislature is not in Albany, and she has repeatedly refused to answer those questions. We have been unable to contact her about this latest submission.
