You Paid For It: State Senate Chairs

Thanks to a little-known policy -- when a state senator leaves office, he or she is allowed to purchase the expensive chair they used on the senate chamber floor, for the cut rate price of 25 dollars.

ALBANY, NY (WRGB) It's the best furniture deal you'll ever see, but it's only available to outgoing New York State Senators. And yes, you paid for it.

Thanks to a little-known policy, when a state senator leaves office, he or she is allowed to purchase the expensive chair they used on the senate chamber floor, for the cut rate price of $25.

It turns out 16 senators who left office at the end of last year, took their chairs with them, according to senate records. That includes one local former senator, Kathy Marchione, along with some big name former leaders like John Defrancisco and Jeff Klein.

A 17th chair was gifted to the family of senator Jose Peralta, who died suddenly late last year.

It's unclear how much replacement chairs cost -- but it's estimated to be in the hundreds of dollars each.
