Albany, NY (WRGB) — On Wednesday afternoon, Bethlehem Central High School broke ground on a new turf athletic field.
Coaches, teachers, and members of the school district held a celebratory event in recognition of this major athletic upgrade, breaking ground where the turf field will eventually be located.
This has been in the works since the 2021 school year, so this certainly was a monumental day. Now why is this so important? We all know how the weather can be in the Capital Region, and when we talked to Jody Monroe, Bethlehem Central School District Superintendent, she said it's long overdue to have this new field and that athletes, as well as students, will now be able to use their outdoor athletic facilities year round.
It's important for our student-athletes and our phys-ed classes to be able to access the field year round, and many other districts already have turf fields, so we're really excited to be including this as a part of our bond.
Monroe also went on to tell us that the hope is to have this new turf field ready by the fall athletic seasons.
