Mark Sausville era begins in Scotia

In his first season as head coach of Scotia-Glenville's varsity boy's basketball program, Jim Giammattei won exactly one game.

But the 25 years that followed, "Coach G" added 399 more wins, including at one point, 53-straight. Along the way, the Tartans accumulated nine Foothills Conference titles, five Section Two crowns, and a pair of Class A state championships.

This summer, Giammattei decided to hang up his whistle in order to spend more time in the stands. His son Jaden is a freshman at Niskayuna this year, and a two-sport athlete for the Silver Warriors.

And so - the Mark Sausville era begins for the Tartans. Sausville previously spent 12 seasons on Schenectady's bench, leading the Patriots to a state title in 2001. In addition to a new coach, Scotia also lost four of its starting five from last year. The lone holdover is senior sharpshooter Christian Corker.
