UAlbany football tries to prove itself against Richmond
ALBANY, NY (WRGB)--It's a flashback to the last time the ualbany football team played richmond. October 8th of last year at Casey Stadium, the 16th-ranked Great Danes pushed the 6th-ranked Spiders to triple overtime, but came up a touchdown short of the upset.
2016 ended up being a new high-water mark for the purple and gold program, ending with wins over New Hampshire and Stony Brook.
But if UAlbany wants to take that next step, it needs to beat the other top teams in the conference more consistently.
The Great Danes have already knocked off then-#7 Villanova this season, but took a step back last Saturday in a loss to then-number#23 Elon.
This past weekend, UAlbany's defense, which is ranked Top-10 in the country, held the nationally-ranked Phoenix to just two field goals all game.
However, the Great Danes offense couldn't come up with a score of their own, making it only as far as Elon's 26-yardline, and that was on the final series of the game.
For the Richmond rematch, the defense will need to bring it once again.
The Spiders are the #1 team in the country in total offense, spinning their web mostly through the air.
