SYRACUSE N.Y. — All signs are pointing toward Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow joining the Syracuse Mets in 2019, according to mlb.com.
The New York Mets reassigned Tebow this week (a friendly way to say he was cut) and suggested he will play for the Triple-A Syracuse Mets.
Syracuse Mets General Manager Jason Smorol was unable to confirm the news of Tebow's addition to the hometown baseball team during a phone call Tuesday afternoon.
Last season, Tebow played for the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
Tebow was the quarterback for the University of Florida and won the Heisman Trophy in 2007. He was drafted by the Denver Broncos and played two seasons there as well as one season for the New York Jets in 2012.
He started his professional baseball career in 2016.
